Ocosta Freshman Jasmin Velasco was the lone Wildcat entrant in the North Girls Sub Regional Qualifying Tournament, also held Saturday at the same site as the boy’s tournament. The girl’s tournament is comprised of wrestlers from all WIAA divisions, from 1B/2B to 4A.

Jasmin wrestled four matches in the tournament, registering two wins and two losses. In her first bout of the day, she lost by pin to the eventual champion, Cristy Langdon of Castle Rock. She then came back and pinned Mariah Taylor of Centralia. Her third match went into overtime, tied 4-4, but Jasmin lost by two in the sudden death period.

In her last match of the day, Jasmin defeated Alexia Darst of Aberdeen by a 13-10 decision to earn fifth place and a spot as an Alternate in the WIAA Region 3 Girls Tournament, that will be held this Saturday, Feb. 11, at Aberdeen High School.
