The Montesano GU13 Lightning struck for three first-half goals en route to a 4-1 win over the Duvall Thunderbolts FC in the Washington Youth Soccer Rec Cup Girls U13 championship game on Dec. 10.

The offensive explosion, coupled with a near-perfect defensive performance, helped the Lightning conclude an undefeated season (13-0-1) in which the team never trailed in a game and allowed only three opponent goals.

The Lightning started Saturday with a 3-0 semifinal win over the KE Sweet and Sassy.

The Lightning were not the only Montesano team at the Starfire Sports Complex on Saturday. The GU15 Bandits also qualified for the state semis and hung with the eventual U15 state champion Lakewood/Steilacoom Ladybugs before falling, 4-1.
