Monte drops shootout

Playing against a packed-in defensive unit, Montesano dominated in shots, but couldn’t convert until the penalty kick shootout when host Tenino won, 0-0 (3-2), in an Evergreen 1A League match on Tuesday, Oct. 18.

The Bulldogs (4-1, 8-3-2) had chances on-goal, but the Beavers packed in the penalty area in front of the goal through regulation and overtime. In the shootout, Tenino won on the fifth and final spot kick.

“We had a lot of chances, but most of the chances were out wide,” Montesano assistant coach Rick Denholm said. “When we were in close, we had some, but couldn’t convert. They had just two shots on goal. They played defensively and played for the shootout.”

Samantha Stanfield and Hallie Stubb each converted a penalty kick during the shootout for the Bulldogs.
