RENTON — Three Grays Harbor wrestlers won championships at the Lindbergh Invitational on Dec. 16.
Andy Fry and Tony Williams, both of Montesano, and Hoquiam’s Antonio Garcia were among the individual titlists.
Montesano placed second in the team competition, finishing 10 points behind Class 3A Auburn-Riverside. Exact team scores were not immediately available.
Fry won the 106-pound championship with a decision victory in the title round. Making his season debut, Williams scored a first-round pin in the 138-pound final.
Montesano’s Carson Klinger (160 pounds) and Kai Olson (182) each placed second. Cooper Johansson placed third at 106 and Aaron Lano fourth at 126.
“It was the first time we’ve been close to full strength,” Monte coach Jeff Klinger said. “It’s definitely something to grow on.”
Garcia pulled off an escape in the final 15 seconds to edge Lynden’s Levi Oostra, 4-3, in the 145-pound title match. The Hoquiam wrestler battled through a shoulder injury he suffered during the contest.
“He really toughed it,” Hoquiam coach Terry Helland said. “Fingers crossed, hopefully (the injury) it’s not too bad.”
Hoquiam’s Brady Cummings was third at 152 pounds.
Montesano will host an invitational tournament on Dec. 21.
