Playing in the third-place game, Elma flipped the scoreboard into its favor with a 28-4 third quarter to claim the win and the trophy over Astoria (Ore.) on Saturday, Dec. 17, at the Seaside Holiday Classic at Seaside, Ore.
The Eagles defeated the Fishermen 54-43.
Reserve Kali Rambo, who is a varsity/junior varsity swing player, led the Eagles in scoring with 14 points. Molly Johnston added 10 points, eight rebounds and five blocks. Brooke Sutherby had nine rebounds and Peyton Elliott had 10 points, seven rebounds and three steals.
“Our defense,” Elma head coach Lisa Johnson said about the third-quarter surge. “We were working as a team, talking, communicating, doing it all.”
