Eagles battle back against Knights

62-59 win in overtime

VANCOUVER — Down 38-19 at the half, Elma came roaring back and nearly won it in regulation before King’s Way Christian edged out a non-league 62-59 win in overtime on Tuesday, Dec. 20.

Trace Thompson led Elma with 25 points, the majority of them coming in the second half. Avery Brown added 19 points, six assists and six rebounds and A.J. Brown pulled down 10 rebounds to go with his nine points.

“We had a chance to win in regulation — a 30-foot shot that was missed just to the right,” Elma head coach Marvin Prince said. “In overtime, we had the ball with eight seconds left. Coming up to the key, we had three options and we got the right one. The ball just didn’t go in (to tie). We played fantastic (in the second half), just a great overall effort by the guys.

“If we continue to play this way, I know we are going to start winning games.”

Skyler Freeman led all scorers with 28 points for King’s Way.

On Dec. 28, Elma (2-5 overall) traveled to Ilwaco. The paper went to press before results were available.
