Bulldogs douse Rockets

74-33

Erupting for 29 points in the first quarter, unbeaten Montesano crushed Castle Rock, 74-33, in a non-league game Friday, Dec. 9, at Castle Rock.

Jordan Spradlin scored 28 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in less than three quarters for the Bulldogs (4-0).

Oddly, the game was scoreless for the opening two minutes. But once Shayla Floch opened the pointmaking with a free throw, the Bulldogs took off en route to a 29-5 lead after one period.

“I thought we got after it on the defensive end,” Montesano coach Julie Graves said. “I think we forced (close to) 20 turnovers in the first quarter.”

Floch finished with 14 points and five assists. Point guard Cheyann Bartlett handed out seven assists.

Bulldogs 63, Warriors 28

Montesano jumped out to a 10-point lead after the first quarter and rolled to 63-28 victory over Rochester in a non-league game on Wednesday, Dec. 7.

The Bulldogs (3-0) held the Warriors to just three points in the first quarter to take the lead for good, but Monte kept after Rochester on defense in the second half.

“Our defense carried us through the first half; but when we came out in the second half, we played with more passion and we held them to two points in the third quarter,” Graves said. “Cheyann (Bartlett) did a tremendous job of energizing the offense in the second half.”

Monte was led by a double-double of 22 points and 12 rebounds from Spradlin, as well as 10 points and seven rebounds from Floch. Josie Talley finished with 13 points. Seniors Bartlett, Hannah Quinn and Josie Toyra each swiped three steals.

The Bulldogs returned home Tuesday, Dec. 13, to face Class 2A Black Hills. Results of that match were not available when The Vidette went to press.
