Bulldogs win in three
Missing only one serve, Montesano walloped Seton Catholic, 25-11, 25-8, 25-17, in a non-league match Thursday (Sept. 22) at Bo Griffith Memorial Gym.
Monte’s Hannah Hatcher turned in a fine all-around performance. Putting all 18 of her serves into play, she hit three aces while also contributing 23 assists and 15 digs.
Shayla Floch delivered 12 kills and Jordan Spradlin 11 for the Bulldogs (6-0). Floch was a perfect 12-of-12 from the service line, while Janessa Otterstetter was 10-of-10. Josie Talley brought up nine digs.
“We served the ball well, which has been pretty typical for us,” Montesano coach Debbie Gibson said. “Our servers hit their areas well and kept them off-balance.”
The Bulldogs also took the JV match, 22-25, 25-18, 15-6. Montesano’s C squad downed Ilwaco’s junior varsity, 25-15, 25-20.
Monte hosted East County rival Elma on Tuesday (Sept. 27).
Bulldogs sweep Tigers
CENTRALIA — When Montesano’s offense is clicking, it is tough for other teams to keep up. Tuesday night’s non-league match at Centralia was proof of that, with the Bulldogs keeping the hosts on defense en route to a 25-19, 25-16, 25-20 victory.
Shayla Floch slugged 15 kills and Jordan Spradlin added 10 kills and three solo blocks for the Bulldogs (5-0). Hannah Hatcher dished out 26 assists and Josie Talley had eight digs and Josie Toyra seven digs.
“(Centralia) has some hitters, but I felt like we controlled the match,” Montesano head coach Debbie Gibson said. “We passed the ball really well. When we are passing well, there are a lot of players we can go to. They were playing a lot of defense tonight. We had a chance to run our offense and they had trouble defending it. We really had to work for it, so I’m happy with the way the kids responded to playing at a higher level.”
Toyra and Hannah Manley were also cited for 100 percent serving.
Montesano won the junior varsity 25-21, 25-18 and Centralia won the C Squad match 25-14, 25-22.
