I rarely write a letter to the editor, but based on what I experienced the other night I decided I needed to.
I attended what was billed as a public hearing regarding this “traffic revision.” This was upstairs in City Hall and was nothing but a dog and pony show. We were asked to vote on about six different options for the off ramp that leads into town off the freeway.
Aren’t we putting the cart before the horse? Why are we considering options before we are given reasons for even considering options?
Many people showed up to get some answers, but they left in disgust when they found out there was no public hearing. Come to think of it, there wasn’t even a meeting. There were five drawings with various options scattered around the room.
When are we going to get a real public hearing? I understand the city received some funds, but what are they for? Are we ever going to get some real answers?
I just don’t get it. Why is the Mayor and city council afraid to talk to the people of this town. They seem to turn a deaf ear to the public and proceed down this path of “we know best.”
As a taxpayer, I need some real answers before I am going to recommend any options. Let’s stop the game playing and start treating us citizens like adults.
Let’s put this whole thing up to a vote of the people before we start spending tax money.
