Sharon Kay O’Connor (Harms) was born a twin, June 1, 1938 in Spokane, Wash. She was raised in Pullman on a wheat farm, graduating from Pullman High School and earned an education degree at Washington State College. At WSC she met and married Terry O’Connor who she shared life’s adventures with for more than 50 years.

After graduating from college, Sharon and Terry taught school in Kahlotus, Wash. followed by a teaching contract in Burns Lake, B.C. After a year they moved to Raymond, Wash. and ultimately Montesano, Wash. in 1967 which would be their lifelong home.

Early in her career she coached women’s basketball, taught home economics and conducted evening sewing classes. With six children, her career was on hold and she spent most of her life as a mother and homemaker. An expert on cooking and nutrition, she enjoyed catering, gardening, preserving food and caring for her family. Her outlet was singing with Sweet Adelines, in both chorus and quartet, and sewing costumes for competitions. She was passionate about all things WSU and loved to watch Cougar football and truly hoped one day to return to Pullman. Later she would be actively involved with Red Cross as she and Terry taught CPR classes. Her faith provided her perspective on life and she was known to share an opinion or two on faith and other topics.

Sharon was unexpectedly reunited in Heaven with her husband, Terry, and daughter, Cheryl on Friday, Nov. 25, the day after Thanksgiving. She is survived by her children, Rick, Michele, Mark, Rod and Jeanne. She has a lasting legacy with numerous grandchildren. Preferring the support role rather than the limelight, she vehemently requested no memorial service, but will be laid to rest with a small family gathering in the Pullman Cemetery at a later date.
