Kyla Malynne Brown-Valencia, born June 16, 1998, and received her wings on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, in a head-on collision on State Route 3, south of Allyn.
Kyla is survived by her mother Pamela Nolan; father Randy Brown and step-fathers Brian Nolan and Bob Valencia; siblings Jason Valencia, Jolaine Valencia-Schrotberger and Jadyn Martinez; grandparents Becky French, Lani Bradberry, James Day, Robert and Elaine Jones; great-grandparents Elden French and Thais French; along with many other beloved family members and friends.
Kyla was born in Bellevue, however her mother wanted her raised where she trusted her neighbors and knew the grocery clerks by name and she chose to move to the Elma – McCleary area when Kyla was only 6 years old. Raising Kyla in Elma she knew she would provide her with experiences and values she would not be exposed to elsewhere. Riding horses, hiking, camping and floating down the river were only a few things Kyla loved. She loved soccer and participated in the local soccer camp as well as taught soccer to young soccer enthusiasts. She also loved country music, rock & roll and old school hip hop; if Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “Baby Got Back” came on the radio you had better watch out because she would not sit still. She loved photography, her dog and skinny dipping! And of course, she loved coffee, her friends and selfies. Kyla worked at the Miller House Restaurant in town as well as Bean Bags Espresso which encouraged her love of coffee.
Kyla was known by many names and would answer to all of them: “Stink”, “Stinky”, “Kyle”, “Malynne”, “Malynnie”, “Kylita”. Her friends called her “Nigs” and most importantly her great-grandmother would call her “Sparrow” and now she will fly with her own wings.
A celebration of her life was held on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, at 3 p.m. at Elma High School, 1011 W Main St. Elma, WA 98541.
In lieu of flowers a monetary donation can be accepted at the Our Community Credit Union under Kyla Brown Valencia’s name. Any money that goes above and beyond the funeral expenses will be donated as a soccer scholarship in Kyla’s name.
