Jerry P. Phillips was born on July 23, 1935 to Paul and Ruth Phillips in Sand Springs, Okla. He was an only child and grew up on Los Angles, Calif., graduating from Hollywood High School in 1952.
Following high school, Jerry attended Warner Pacific Bible College, graduating with Bachelor’s Degree in Theology in 1957.
While attending Warner, Jerry met and fell in love with Jeannine Martin from Wenatchee, Wash. The two were married in 1954, celebrating their 64th wedding anniversary this past August.
Jerry and Jeannine had four children; Sherri, Teresa, David and Mark. Sherri passed away in 2012 and Mark died shortly after his birth in 1962. Teresa and David both reside in Tumwater. Jeannine remains living in the family home in Montesano.
Jerry became an ordained minister with the Church of God in 1957 and pastored in Oregon, California, Washington, Kansas and Alabama. Over the years he developed long lasting friendships with church members across the country. Jerry served on the board of trustee for Warner Pacific College and well as numerous other community boards and committees over his the tenure of his career serving the Lord. Toward the end of his career, Jerry was the District Pastor for Northern California and the Pacific Northwest.
Jerry retired (sort of) in 2004. In retirement, Jerry continued his calling to the pulpit filling in on Sundays when needed and performing numerous wedding and funerals. Jerry had the opportunity to perform the marriages on three of his children as well as two of his grandchildren.
Jerry and Jeannine were blessed with seven grandchildren; Brianna Hornback, Darcy Smith, Corey Marx, and Phillip, Stephen, Kristina, and Shawna Bratton and a total of 10 great-grandchildren.
Jerry passed away peacefully on Nov. 12, 2018, after a brief illness.

A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, at the Montesano Church of God.
