TRL seeks more feedback on strategic plan

Meeting Wednesday, Aug. 21, at Hoquaim library is similar to one last month in Montesano.

The Timberland Regional Library is hosting another Community Check-in meeting, tonight in Hoquiam.

“The goal is to have the next version of the 2020-2022 Strategic Plan available in the TRLSeptember eNewsletter, which will be emailed out after September 20, to give time for the internal committee to review community feedback,” the library said in an email announcing the series of meetings.

There are three more meetings planned:

  • 6-7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, 6 -7 p.m. at the Ilwaco Timberland Library.
  • 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, in Lewis County at the Chehalis branch.
  • 6-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at the library in Lacey.

A meeting last month in Montesano was attended by about two dozen people, and several expressed their frustrations with TRL’s announcement last year that they would close roughly one-third of its branches, including the one in Monte.

“How are we going to be assured that TRL is part of that community connected piece?” Dean Johnny of Oakville asked, according to an article in The Olympian.

Montesano Mayor Vini Samuel suggested the branches are unique, so what’s the point of connecting Olympia to Montesano to Shelton? What can they offer each other, she asked.

“You can’t apply a cookie-cutter plan to Monte and Elma or Oakville and Westport,” Carol Boyer of Montesano said.

If you would like to have a say in the development of TRL’s Strategic Plan, the next opportunity is tonight.
