Pancake run is set for Saturday in McCleary

McCleary will host a Shrove Day Pancake Race on Saturday (Feb. 22).

Packet pickup and onsite registration begins at 8 a.m. at the McCleary VFW, 158 N. Summit Road. The races begin at 9. The pancake feed — which is open to everyone, not just runners — will start once the races are done.

The Shrove Day Pancake Race features several race categories: competitive dash, kids dashes and the business/organization dash, which is new this year (the business/organization with the most runners wins a prize).

Bring a frying pan. Pancakes will be provided. Costumes are encouraged. Prizes will be awarded to first, second and second-to-last place finishers for each dash; best costume; and the company/organization with the most runners.

Race route: Start line will be at the VFW, and runners will run to City Hall and back. Course length is just over a quarter of a mile, or roughly 1,400 feet.

Fees: Adult registration (13 years and older) is $10 and includes entrance to all-you-can-eat pancake feed. Child registration (6-12) is $8 for the run and pancake feed. Children 5 and younger run for free.
