Expect 15 minute traffic closures south of Monte

SR 107 bridge work to replace girders will halt traffic periodically from Jan. 7 through Jan. 9.

New bridge girders are coming this week to the state Route 107 bridge south of Montesano across the Chehalis River. With them will come 15-minute closures of traffic.

Crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will be blocking traffic intermittently for 15 minutes at at time between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 7) through Thursday (Jan. 9), according to a release last week from the WSDOT.

“Backups are likely during the temporary closures, so travelers are encouraged to consolidate or cancel discretionary travel if possible during the daytime work,” the release states. There could be up to five 15-minute closures each day, a WSDOT spokesperson said in the email.

The supports will replace “damaged and deteriorating timber” holding up the 1950s era bridge.

The project, which will include new safety rails and paint for the span, is expected to be completed in the fall.
