A Montesano rally fell short as the Bulldogs fell to Thomas Jefferson High School (Auburn) 9-5 on Saturday, April 16, at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma.
Playing on the same field as the Tacoma Rainiers, Montesano fell behind 7-1 after the Raiders (4-9) scored six runs on two hits, three walks and three errors in the bottom of the third.
Montesano (8-3) began to claw its way back into the game with a run in the fourth on a Zandar Ames RBI ground out and three runs in the fifth on an RBI single from Jackson Busz and two-run triple off the bat of Isaiah Pierce.
With Monte down 7-5 in the bottom of the sixth, Jefferson scored a run on a bases-loaded walk followed by an RBI triple by Drew DeLaCruz to extend its lead to 9-5.
Montesano was shut out in the top of the seventh to end the game.
Busz led the Bulldogs offense, going 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.
Isaiah Pierce went 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs for Monte.
John Kling took the loss for Monte, allowing six runs — one earned — on two hits and four walks in two innings pitched.
Montesano’s defense committed five errors in the game, leading to five unearned runs for the Raiders.
Montesano takes on Elma for a doubleheader scheduled for Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Elma.

Forks took the first game of a doubleheader against Pe Ell-Willapa Valley, handing the Titans a 6-1 loss on Saturday, April 16, in South Bend.
Forks sophomore Gunner Rogers went 4-for-4 with a pair of home runs and four RBIs to lead the Spartans (7-0, 3-0 2B Pacific).
PWV was led by Riley Pearson, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Hudson Barnum took the loss for the Titans (6-5, 3-2), allowing five earned runs on eight hits and five walks with five strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings pitched.

PWV lost a pitcher’s duel to Forks in the nightcap, falling 2-1 to the undefeated Spartans.
PWV tied the game in the bottom of the third when starting pitcher Garrett Keeton drove in Hudson Barnum with a double to tie the game at 1-1.
Forks (7-0, 3-0) countered with a run on a single by Logan Olson in the top of the fourth.
Spartans starter Logan Urvina made the lead stick, holding PWV’s offense scoreless the rest of the way to pick up the complete-game victory.
Keeton took the loss despite allowing just one earned run on eight hits with four strikeouts and four walks in 6 2/3 innings pitched.
PWV hosts Ocosta on Tuesday in a doubleheader. First pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.

GHC (11-16, 4-4 NWAC West) took the first game 10-6.
Chase Cleveringa led the way for the Chokers, going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
Aaron Lano went 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI for the Chokers.
Elma product Brody Rustemeyer picked up the win, allowing two runs on six hits with three walks and a pair of strikeouts in five innings pitched.

Grays Harbor College failed to hold a late lead and lost in extra innings in a 4-3 loss to Green River in the nightcap.
Grays Harbor’s Dustin Chartrand drove home Nolan Baugher with a sacrifice fly in the top of the third and GHC scored two runs in the fourth when Aaron Lano scored on a wild pitch, followed by Preston Vine crossing the plate on an Aidan McMurdo sac fly.
Down 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Green River’s Ryan Oka led off the inning with a triple and later scored on an error to tie the game and force extra innings, as the second game of doubleheaders in the NWAC are seven-inning games.
In the bottom of the eighth with the bases loaded and one out, Green River’s Eli Savitt singled to score Jordan Stapleton with the winning run.
Ian Winterhalder took the loss for GHC, allowing two earned runs on nine hits with seven strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings pitched.
