Favorite pastimes of beer-drinking and fishing combine at the Fish and Brew Fest, to be held Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.
The Brew Fest will be held at Fleet Park, in Montesano, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30. Organizers said this new event is an opportunity to bring people together and to highlight what makes Montesano special — a sense of community and quality of life.
The free event, sponsored by Montesano Chamber of Commerce, features a broadcast of a UW Huskies game, a cornhole tournament and live music. Local beer will be on tap in the beer garden. Tickets for the beer garden are $15 and may be purchased at the Montesano Fire Department and Timberland Bank. Beer garden tickets include a commemorative glass.
Prizes will be awarded at the bracket-style cornhole tourney so pick a partner wisely.
Wine, food and merchandise will be available from vendors. The Huskies vs. Stanford game begins at 6 p.m. and the musical lineup includes local artists Anna Robinson, Conner Nuckols, Justin Kautzman and Dustin Adair, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Duos The Siren and the Assassin and The Lady Drinks Whiskey perform at 8:30.
The clipped fin fishing derby will be held on Oct. 1 with weigh-ins from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Montesano Farm and Home. Cash prizes include $1,000 for first place, $300 for second and $200 for third. Registration is $20, and contestants may register at Horns &Hooks, Bulldog Lanes, the 76 Station and at the Brew Fest.
All ages are welcome and participants must adhere to all Washington state fishing laws and regulations, including possessing a valid Washington state fishing license and a valid Washington state salmon card.
All derby entries must have a clipped adipose fin, and have been harvested in the Chehalis River Basin on Oct. 1, 2016, between sunrise and the 5 p.m. All ages welcome. Other derby rules are posted on the Montesano Chamber of Commerce’s Facebook page and also will be provided at the time of registration.
