The Aberdeen Fire Department responded to two fires on Wednesday, April 6, and while both were engulfed in flames and smoke, there were no injuries at either location, according to AFD Chief Tom Hubbard.
Aberdeen firefighters and Hoquiam firefighters responded to the two fires, which were six hours apart.
The first incident, which was at 9:26 a.m. in the 100 block of N. West Boulevard, in Aberdeen, involved a large “5th wheel” recreational vehicle that was engulfed with fire. The flames from the initial fire threatened nearby residences, according to the AFD news release The Daily World obtained.
“The fire was brought under control quickly with minimal damage to nearby homes,” the news release read.
The second incident, which sent AFD and HFD at 3:45 p.m. to a fire in the 500 block of Baila Way in Aberdeen, resulted in an arrest by Aberdeen Police Department officers.
Aberdeen police officers arrested Lannie Jane Burnett, 53, of Aberdeen, just after 4 p.m., which was about 20 minutes after the initial call, APD Lt. Steve Timmons said.
Burnett was arrested on probable cause for arson in the first degree.
Heavy smoke and flames vented out of the residence from both floors, according to the statement.
At the time of the fire, people were inside the two-story residence, he said.
“There were two (people) in the residence, but they were able to get out without any injuries,” Timmons said.
Since the residents were able to get out of the building and it was confirmed there was no one inside the residence, the firefighters started defensive operations because of the building’s structural instability.
“The fire was extinguished with all Aberdeen and Hoquiam units returning to service around (6 p.m.,)” the press release read.
Both of the incidents required off-duty personnel to respond to backfill the stations and manage additional emergencies while the firefighters were on-scene.
Burnett, who was caught a few blocks from the fire on Baila Way, was booked into Grays Harbor County Jail a little after 10 a.m., on Thursday, April 7, according to the Grays Harbor County Jail roster.
She is currently housed at the jail on a $50,000 bond.
