The Montesano Historic Car show was met again this year with success, as 250 cars and hundreds, if not thousands, of spectators walked the streets July 15 enjoying classic cars, food and music.
Event organizer Dave Foss said the show this year was fantastic.
“We had cars coming from all over western Washington and some from Oregon, everything went really smoothly and the weather held out,” he said.
Joe Wild made his way to the show from Hoodsport to display his 1956 Chevy 3100.
“I enjoy this car show, I used to get out here a lot and it’s on my list to do annually now,” he said.
Trevor Frye is from Montesano, and said that he wouldn’t miss the opportunity to show off his 1971 Plymouth Barracuda.
“I live in town and like to participate in what our town does and I love muscle cars,” he said. “And you have to show off your pride and joy.”
Joe Pavletich said that he doesn’t go to car shows seeking awards, rather he just enjoys showing off his unique 1934 Ford Tutor. However, that didn’t keep him from winning the Mayor’s Choice Award.
“It’s kind of a unique car, considering all the custom work that has been done on it,” Pavletich said.
Classic cars weren’t the only draw to the event as local vendors and musicians were also represented. Slightly Awry performed in front of the court house until around 1 p.m. and Kid’s Summer Fest saw families make their way to Montesano’s Fleet Park where they enjoyed music, food and summer activities. Bounce houses, an inflatable obstacle course, fire department drills, face painting and a Boy Scout monkey bridge were all ways in which kids could enjoy the car show in their own way.
The event not only brought people to Montesano, but allowed for sizable donations to local charities.
“We raised a lot of money for charity, some of which we donated already, some of which we will donate this fall,” Foss said.
So far donations have been made to the Montesano Food Bank, the Montesano Police Association, the Montesano Community Center, and the Chehalis Valley Historical Museum.
