Fire District 5 has board vacancy

May 1 deadline to apply

Jerry Bailey, a longtime retired member and fire commissioner of Grays Harbor Fire District 5, resigned from his position as fire commissioner on March 31 for personal reasons, according to a statement released by the district Monday.

The open position will be filled through an approved process of the Fire District board. Whomever is appointed would serve during the rest of Bailey’s term, which runs through Dec. 31, 2019. When the term is completed, the appointed board member will then have the opportunity to run for another term through the regular election process.

Qualifications to apply for the board position include being a resident of Grays Harbor Fire District 5, at least 18 years of age, and no felony convictions on record.

The board of will review candidates at the May 8 meeting. The application deadline is noon, May 1. Letters of interest and resumes will be accepted either by hand, attn. Chief Prater at 428 Stamper Road in Elma, or by mail, attn. Chief Prater, PO Box 717, Elma, WA 98520.
