Driftwood presents ‘Charlotte’s Web’

Driftwood Players Children’s Theatre will weave the tale of “Charlotte’s Web” this weekend in Aberdeen.

It’s a fable about a runt of a pig named Wilbur, who is loved by a little girl named Fern and befriended by a clever barn spider named Charlotte. The two-act play was adapted by Joseph Robinette from the classic children’s story by E.B. White.

School groups are seeing the play at various times this week, but there will be only three public performances: Friday at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Judy Dossett is overseeing director-in-training Valerie Parker on this production. The players come from schools all over Grays Harbor County, as well as the general community.

Fern is played by Emily Mefford of Simpson Avenue Elementary in Montesano; Wilbur the pig is played by Michael Turpin of Hoquiam High School; and Charlotte the barn spider is played by Mikaela Murphy, also of HHS. Other young actors are students at Lincoln, McDermoth, St. Mary, Stevens, Cosmopolis, Robert Gray and even home schools.

Seats are $8 for adults, $6 for teens (ages 13 to 18) and $3 for children (ages 2 to 12). Cash and checks will be accepted at the door, but not credit cards.

Advance tickets are available online at aberdeendriftwood.com. They can also be purchased at the door before each public performance. The theater is located at 120 E. Third St. in Aberdeen.
