Montesano man sent to hospital after multiple-vehicle wreck on Sumner Avenue

A 38-year-old Seattle man was arrested on suspicion of DUI after a wreck that injured a Montesano resident on Sumner Avenue in Hoquiam involving several vehicles last month.

Hoquiam Police Chief Joe Strong said Hoquiam officers responded to a multiple vehicle and pedestrian wreck around 10 a.m. Dec. 18 in the 2700 block of Sumner Avenue. They learned a Dodge truck driven by the Seattle man had veered into the south parking strip, hitting three parked vehicles.

A 48-year-old Montesano man had exited one of the struck parked vehicles just prior to the crash and was struck by the Dodge, causing “non-life-threatening injuries,” Strong said. He was transported to Grays Harbor Community Hospital by ambulance.

“The driver of the Dodge was taken into custody for investigation of driving with a suspended driver’s license, DUI and possession of a controlled substance,” Strong said. He was held at the Hoquiam jail while the case was still under investigation. His truck was taken as evidence.

Both lanes of Sumner Avenue were closed for approximately an 90 minutes during the investigation.
