The Elma Chamber of Commerce is hoping to scare up some business at the fairgrounds and some food for the local food bank.
The organization is putting the finishing touches on Frightmare in Elma, a haunted house (or barn is more accurate) at the Grays Harbor County Fairgrounds’ dairy and beef barn.
“It’s going to be awesome,” Danny Mollas, the chamber director, said during a tour Monday. “We’re super excited about it. The last haunted house was done in 2003, I think.”
Many Elma businesses are getting involved. Some are decorating areas of the haunted house. Businesses involved include Beehive Community, Better Properties, Century 21, Coffee Coop, Cut Rate Auto Parts, Eagles Landing, East County Pharmacy, Elma Dental Center, Elma RV Park, Five Star Dealerships, Graphically Deb, G.H. Veterinary Services, our Community Credit Union, Schumacher Electric and Timberland Bank.
The Chamber is seeking volunteers to help with the event and is partnering with the Elma School District so students can do their senior hours while scaring people. If you would like to volunteer, contact Mollas at 360-482-3055.
The event is 6-10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays beginning Oct. 11 through the rest of the month plus Halloween night. The lights will be on for first hour each night with the hope that it is less scary for the little visitors. At 7 p.m., the lights turn off for the more adventurous thrill-seekers. The price is $6 for the lights on and $8 for the full scare. Attendees can get a dollar off admission by bringing in a canned food donation.
The Chamber also will be be selling refreshments (soft drinks and hot dogs) each night.
