New businesses open in East County

Four new or renewed businesses are changing the look of Montesano and East County.

In Montesano, Towne Barbershop opened around the first of the year; Urban Juice Factory opened last week; and the long awaited return of the Bee Hive Restaurant could come as soon as this week. Urban Juice Factory, Inc.

Address: 214 S. Main St., Montesano.

Owners: Todd, Michelle and Hannah Pierog and Chris Wood.

Previous work: Todd owns West Satsop Contracting, Inc.; Michelle works as an office financial manager with a law firm in Olympia; Hannah is finishing her master’s degree in business; Chris is a real estate agent.

Specialization: According to a Facebook post, they are testing a “decadent toast menu.” The menu can be found on their Facebook page (facebook.com/urbanjuicefactoryinc).

Personal: Both Hannah and Chris are Montesano High School graduates.

Quote: “Living and loving this community for our entire lives we wanted to create a place that promotes a lifestyle for offering healthy choices, indulging in the local arts, and celebrating one another’s goals.”

Prices: Range from $1.85 for iced tea to $7.45 for a Smoothie Bowl.

Employees: Aside from the four owners, there are four part-time and one full-time employees.

Mug Shot food truck

Address: 43 Tower Blvd., Elma, at the Satsop Business Park

Owners: Darrell Chambers

Previous work: They were both drug and alcohol counselors owning a drug and alcohol outpatient treatment center in Olympia, which is now being run by their daughter.

Specialization: “Our burgers are a third of a pound Angus beef.” Angie Chambers said. “And everybody loves our chicken wrap.” Also, their items have pretty creative names.

Personal: Greater Grays Harbor Inc. will host a ribbon-cutting celebration at noon, April 30. There will be deals available.

Quote: “Food trucks like Mug Shot are a vital piece of the puzzle as our customers and employee base continues to grow at the business park,” Satsop Business Park manager Alissa Shay said.

Prices: Chain gang (a combination of items) is the most expensive item at $9.

Towne Barbershop

Address: 108 Pioneer Ave. E., Montesano

Owners: Doug and Megan Zimmerman

Previous work: Doug had a career building houses as a framer before transitioning to cutting hair 11 years ago. “When people I’d been asking for a job started asking me for a job, I knew it was time to change,” Doug Zimmerman said. He cut hair in many places along the West Coast before setting roots in Montesano.

Specialization: Straight razor shaves. “I learned from a 90-year-old barber who learned from a 90-year-old barber.”

Personal: Doug’s oldest child lives in Montesano, so they decided to stay. They’ve been in Monte for about two years. Doug enjoys surfing.

Quote: “I like the blue-collar crowd that lives around here. They work hard. Everybody’s really caring. It’s a little Americana that you want to be a part of. It pulls you in,” Doug Zimmerman said.

Prices: $18 for a haircut, $2 discounts for seniors and military.

Hours: Varies, but often open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.
