Jack LeRoy Prince, the “Voice of the Eagles,” passed away peacefully on March 26, 2019. Jack was born Sept. 26, 1939, to Joseph and Helen (Hliboki) Prince in Elma, where he made his home for 79 years. Jack attended Hunters Prairie Elementary School in Elma and then graduated from Elma High School in 1957. He also graduated with an AA degree from Grays Harbor Community College in 1959. Jack is survived by his loving wife, Judy (Dawson) of 59 years, their three sons Scott of Montesano, Darin (wife Janice) of Montesano, and Marvin (wife Melissa) of Elma. Jack’s other family included his grandchildren, Nathan, Heather, Chad (wife LeeAnn), Shane (wife Hilary), Jordan and Taylor; five great-grandchildren, Zarius, Jessica, Annabelle, Violet and Dakota; his brother, Greg Prince; and two nieces, Amber McKinney and Allison Mason.

Jack has always been a hard-working man. He began working at the Simpson Mill in McCleary as a laborer, but later changed careers to work in the concrete industry. In 1988, Jack was given the opportunity to purchase Bayview Redi-Mix Inc. in Elma. Several years later, his opportunities expanded and he purchased another concrete company in Grays Harbor, further cementing his foothold as an honest businessman within the community for 41 years. Jack was blessed to have worked 30 of those years with his two sons, Marvin and Darin, who have continued to operate Bayview for the last 15 years of Jack’s retirement. Passing on this legacy of hard work and honesty was something Jack was so very proud of.

Jack was also a very proud and active member within his community. His life was spent investing in and serving others and his involvement was widely felt: volunteer fireman for the Elma Fire Department (30 years), Larch Mountain Little League President and umpire, member of the Eagles, Elks and Moose Lodges, Grays Harbor College Board of Directors and the Washington and Aggregates Concrete Association (also past president) and judge for the City of Elma Municipal Court. He was also a part of countless other charitable events within the community.

Of all of his contributions, Jack is best known as the “Voice of the Eagles,” serving as the public address announcer for Elma football and boys and girls basketball for 55 years! His passion for the Eagles could be heard in his understated baritone as he announced across the home court and field for all those years. Aside from his true to the Blue love of Elma sports, Jack enjoyed his beloved farm and picnic area for family and friend gatherings, weddings and barbecues, along with boating, trains, and of course, his Washington Huskies!

A celebration of life is scheduled for Sunday, April 7, 2019, at 3 p.m. in the Elma High School Gymnasium, with a hosted reception to follow. All are welcomed to attend and celebrate Jack’s life.
