Man killed in Porter logging accident identified

The Rochester man killed in a logging accident Tuesday, Sept. 25, near Porter has been identified by Grays Harbor County Coroner Robert Kegel as Richard W. Bird, 31.

An autopsy Friday morning revealed the man was killed by blunt force injuries to the head and trunk. Kegel ruled the death accidental.

Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a landing near Dennis Road in Porter at 1:37 p.m. to reports that a man had been caught between moving logs and injured. Coworkers provided first aid until the aid crew arrived, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, said chief criminal deputy Brad Johansson.
