The Grays Harbor County Fire Marshal on Tuesday, July 17, restricted outdoor burning, “including campfires on private land” because of continued warm and dry weather, according to a release.

“Residential burning and campfires, along with land clearing and silviculture (forest practices) burning will be prohibited until further notices,” the release states.

The fire marshal works with the state Department of Natural Resources and the Olympic Region Clean Air Agency when deciding to implement burn bans.

Campers still can use approved campground improvements, such as fire pits at parks. Fires need to be completely extinguished with water or moist soil until cool to the touch.
