Watershed Festival celebrates the Chehalis River

Free event offers family-friendly, hands-on activities, demonstrations and exhibits

The Chehalis Watershed Festival celebrates the Chehalis River on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Simpson Elementary School (519 Simpson Ave.West) in Montesano. The festival is intended to inspire and raise awareness of the natural resources of the Chehalis Basin.

The public is invited to the free event which offers hands-on activities, demonstrations and exhibits. Salmon takes center stage with the festival highlighting the fish, local streams, rivers and estuary. Craft a salmon life cycle bracelet or make a fish print. Win a prize on the salmon wheel and enjoy the baked salmon feast.

The Watershed Festival celebrates not just the fish in the rivers, but also the people who call the watershed home. The festival is an opportunity to learn about some of the historic activities that occurred along the waterway.
