Elma pair found with ‘large amount’ of potential meth during Thursday arrest

A 37-year-old Elma man and a 29-year-old woman were arrested by Elma Police officers and federal agents on a number of state and federal charges Thursday afternoon. A subsequent search of a residence in the 100 block of North B Street in Elma turned up two handguns and a large amount of suspected methamphetamine, according to Elma Police.

The man had a warrant for his arrest for allegedly threatening and swinging a machete at another man last month. The offense also put him in violation of his probation, according to police. The woman, who was located hiding in a vehicle, was arrested for an outstanding Department of Corrections warrant.

Police said there was an indication of drug sales and distribution at the residence. The drugs and the guns could mean more charges are forthcoming.

Two-car crash in Pacific Co. sends two to the hospital

A case of following too close seems to be at the root of a rear-end two-car accident on U.S. 101 Thursday afternoon, according to a Washington State Patrol report, sending the drivers of both vehicles to Ocean Beach Hospital in Ilwaco with undisclosed injuries.

According to the report, a 57-year-old man from Chinook was driving northbound in his Dodge Dakota pickup near Stringtown Road south of Ilwaco around 1:30 p.m. Behind him was a 35-year-old Ilwaco woman driving a Chevrolet Suburban. When the Chinook man slowed down to turn left onto Stringtown Road — with his blinker on, according to the report — the Ilwaco woman struck the Dodge Dakota from behind.

The report indicates the cause of the accident was inattention and driving too close. The State Patrol is still investigating.
