MONTESANO — Brilliant foul shooting helped Montesano knock off Class 2A Tumwater in a non-league contest on Dec. 15 at Bo Griffith Memorial Gym.
The Bulldogs (6-1), who had been hovering around the 50 percent mark from the line this season, canned 18 of 22 free throws on Friday.
Consecutive 3-point baskets by Lexi Lovell and Katie Granstrom late in the first quarter put Montesano ahead to stay. The margin fluctuated between 5 and 11 points in the fourth quarter.
Zoe Hutchings led the Bulldogs with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Glory Grubb came off the bench to contribute 16 points, eight steals and six rebounds.
Samantha Stanfield led Monte rebounders with 11. Granstrom dished out six assists, while Zoee Lisherness came up with four steals.
“We kept playing hard and kind of learned from our mistakes on the fly,” Montesano coach Julie Graves said. “We were able to do the right things at critical times.”
The Bulldogs hosted Aberdeen on Tuesday. Results of that match were not available when The Vidette went to press.
