Hoquiam, which is considered the favorite to win the Evergreen 1A League this season, will begin the season among the state-ranked teams after the recent release of the Washington State High School Poll.
Montesano, which finished in the state 1A semifinals last season, is ranked 10th in the 1A poll.
Compiled by the Associated Press and voted upon by a panel of sports editors, reporters and other observers, the Grizzlies will open the season as the fourth-ranked 1A team in the state.
Pe Ell-Willapa Valley is the only other Twin Harbors school to earn a state ranking, coming in at No. 3 in the state 2B poll. The Titans lost in the state 2B semifinals last season. North Beach, the two-time Pacific 2B League champions, were listed as receiving votes, but didn’t make it into the top-10 spots.
