House 19 recount ordered

The Secretary of State ordered a recount in the close 19th District House primary for Position 2. Just 50 votes separate Democrats Teresa Purcell and JD Rossetti.

Secretary of State Kim Wyman has ordered a recount in the close 19th District House (Position 2) primary between Democrats Teresa Purcell and JD Rossetti.

Purcell polled 6,411 votes, or 24.2 percent, in this month’s primary and appointed Rep. Rossetti had 6,361 votes, or 24 percent of the total field. Republican Jim Walsh advanced to the General Election with 7,675 votes, 29 percent.

The sprawling Southwest Washington district includes all or part of Cowlitz, Wahkiakum, Pacific, Grays Harbor and Lewis counties. After making preparations, all five counties plan to conduct the machine recount on the morning of Aug. 25. Their respective canvassing boards will meet later to approve new certification.

The 19th District was one of two legislative races that finished within recount range set by state law. The other, for Position 2 in the 15th District in Yakima County, underwent a hand recount last week. No votes changed.
