Brendan Carl has joined The Vidette staff as its sports reporter.
Carl, a graduate of North Beach High School and Grays Harbor College, returns to the Harbor after a three-year stint as a staff reporter and sports writer for the Buffalo Bulletin, a weekly newspaper in Buffalo, Wyo.
He played football and golf for the Hyaks and golf for the Chokers.
While at GHC, Carl wrote articles for The Crows’ Nest, the student publication, and also served as designer. He was awarded Journalism Student of the Year in 2007.
After graduating from GHC, Carl moved on to the College of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism.
During his time at Nebraska, he was a reporter for the Daily Nebraskan, the student newspaper. Carl served as beat reporter for women’s gymnastics and women’s soccer programs and reported on several other sports including the men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis and women’s bowling teams.
Carl is the son of Mike and Leanne Carl of Ocean Shores.
“We’re all excited about Brendan joining the staff of The Vidette, especially bringing his superb knowledge of sports and experienced eye on photography,” said editor Steven Friederich. “I’m happy to bring him back to the Harbor, where his roots are.”
Carl has many pastimes, from playing the guitar to fishing, but his passion remains athletics.
“I’m glad to have the chance to report on sports in the area where I had my first chance to experience athletics,” Carl said. “I have a passion for sports and am excited to be able to tell the stories of the area athletes.”
