Swing into golf

COSMOPOLIS — The high school spring golf season got underway at the Highland golf course in Cosmopolis on March 21. Golfers from Elma, Montesano and Aberdeen traveled to the home course of the Hoquiam Grizzlies to play in the kickoff jamboree.

Coaches matched their like talented golfers into several groups and set them out on the back nine were the longest hole is set 470 yards away. Utilizing a three put rule to keep the game going based on the number of participants, the girls took no time in teeing up as the rain had abated for the moment.

With scores unimportant this early in the season, the focus is mostly on allowing the players to get out and work on their game.

For Montesano, five of the six member team was available to take advantage of the start of the season. Elma had two golfers ready to go.

The Bulldogs travel to Tumwater for their first meet of the season on March 28 and the Eagles start their rounds at Rochester on April 9. The first time Elma will meet Montesano this season will be on April 11.
