Monte, Elma wrestlers drop double-dual

A lack of depth caught up with the Montesano and Elma High School wrestlers in their double dual contests against Hoquiam and Forks on Jan. 22.

Montesano won six of the nine contested matches against Hoquiam, but the Grizzlies collected four of the match’s five forfeits.

“We don’t really have the bodies to do well in a dual format,” coach Jason Dick said. “I thought all our kids wrestled well.”

Monte powerlifters shine at White River Invitational

With all six of their participants winning championships, Montesano’s girls captured the team title at the White River Invitational powerlifting meet last weekend.

The Bulldog girls totaled 48 points, 10 more than host White River. North Beach, which swept the top three places in the unlimited classification, placed third with 26.

Shelton took the boys team title with 46 points and Montesano was second with 34.

Montesano’s Noah Ewing and Ashley Laney received the Best Overall Lifter awards.

Laney captured the girls 97-pound division with a lift total of 515 pounds. Other Bulldog female champions included Chazlyn O’Bannon at 105 pounds (450-pound total), Rayna Ashlock at 114 (595), Lyndsy Quinn at 132 (590), Corie Stewart at 148 (750) and Charley Schimelpfenig at 165 (550).

Ewing, who finished with a 1,295-pound total, won the 198-pound boys weight class. Elma’s Wesley Allen took the 114-pound division with a 705-pound total.
