ELMA — Quarter midget racing at the I-5 Quarter Midget Club took to the track at Elma for their third points race on June 16.

Six classes of cars set up in both heat and main events hoping to get the final race in before the threat of heavier rain — which already cancelled the Grays Harbor Raceway’s scheduled night racing — would make the track unsafe.

With a full schedule now set at the home racetrack from now until Sept. 8, the Mudslinger Shootout is sliced between the scheduled points races for a double day event on June 23-24.

Enthusiasm was abound from young driver Megan White, who took the first place flag in her heat race for the junior novice class, her first win of the season in her first year of racing. At age 7, it is only a matter of time before we see her take the checkered in a main event.

Taking the Senior Honda main event, Devon Borden placed first, while his brother, Carson Borden, ran away with the field in the Senior Novice/Junior Honda complied main event. Carson is fearless behind the wheel and seems to have a take-no-prisoners attitude when it comes to racing.

Results for June 16 main events, in order of first to fourth:

Briggs World Formula: Justin Sample; Devan West; Corbin Wickstrom

Light 160: D. West; J. Sample; Colby Wickstrom; Devon Borden

Senior Honda: D. Borden; Aaron Lano; Mason Dineen

Senior Novice: Tyler Sundstrom; Riley Watkins

Junior Honda: Carson Borden

Junior Novice: Oliver Rolewicz; Jesse Douglas

The next scheduled race for the club is the Mudslinger Shootout non-points race, which will bring out drivers for a full weekend of racing June 23.
