ELMA – The third annual Grays Harbor Outdoor Adventure & Travel Expo will open a two-day run April 20 -21 at the Grays Harbor Fairgrounds. The Expo will feature popular TV personalities from the Discovery Channel series “Deadliest Catch”, Nick Mundt from Outdoor TV’s “Bone Collector” series, plus Glen Hall of the popular outdoor fishing and hunting show “Hawg Quest.”
“Appearing will be two crew members, Edgar Hansen and Nick Mavar, of the Northwestern, from the Deadliest Catch cable series,” said Rod Easton, Fair and Events Supervisor. “In addition, The Great Bear Show, featuring five live black bears, will present daily educational demonstrations.”
At the Outdoor Adventure Expo, vendors and exhibitors will showcase the outdoor experiences, products and recreational destinations that make Grays Harbor County a paradise for the Outdoorsman. “Many local businesses throughout the County are highly involved in outdoor tourism. Along with hunting and fishing guides and lodging providers, a wide range of vendors will participate in our annual event. This is a perfect opportunity for outdoor enthusiasts to learn what is available here,” said Mike Bruner, Director of Grays Harbor Fairgrounds and Tourism. “I also think that residents of the South Sound and the Twin Harbors area will be surprised to find what they can explore and enjoy in their own backyard. Grays Harbor is home to some of the best hunting, fishing, clam digging, camping and hiking opportunities on the west coast. This show is an opportunity for us to present that to the public.”
The Outdoor Expo is a unique opportunity for businesses, charter operations and outfitters to showcase their local-area knowledge and expertise. Exhibitors will share space at the Grays Harbor County Fairgrounds Pavilion with live demonstrations, outdoor products and activity promotions.
An event for the entire family, children are welcome to try their luck at Cabela’s free kids fishing pond, marvel at the Northwest Record Head Mounts, trophy game display and snack on everything from beef jerky to festival specialties.
There will also be a free rod and reel combo presented to the first 10 kids in the door each day, as well as hourly door prizes, provided by Cabela’s. New this year to the show will be the Horns and Hooks Outdoor Magazine and TV, “Horns and Antlers Competition”, where attendees can have their trophies scored and compete for prizes. Also new, will be the Vender Appreciation Banquet Saturday night that will feature live music by the popular local band, “Humptulips”. Paid attendees over the age of 21 are welcome to attend the Banquet.
“We want to thank our sponsors and promotional partners such as Whitney’s Auto Group of Montesano, US Marine, the Vaughn Company of Grays Harbor, Horns & Hooks Outdoor Adventure Magazine and TV, Grays Harbor Tourism, House Brothers Construction and Jodesha Broadcasting’s Bigfoot 93.7 FM,” said Bruner. “Without their continuing support, this event would not be possible.”
Expo tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for youths aged 6 -13, with children 5 and under free. Hours are: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
