ELMA — A gust of wind felt good to anyone at Vance Creek Park on Saturday fishing or taking in the sun. But for those on Bowers Lake, wind became a racing hazard. Now in its second year in Elma, the Electric Radio Controlled Unlimiteds club brought radio-controlled hydroplanes to speed around the lake. The little hydroplanes raced up to 50 mph, but a gust of wind easily took them up into the air and splashed back down. A small crowd gathered to watch the action — sometimes just taking a break from fishing for trout in the other nearby lake. About 20 boats participated in the race, organizers said, bringing along families and others from out of the area for the spectator-friendly event.
