GRAYLAND — The Grayland Open jetski event runs from Friday-Sunday Aug. 17-19.
The event kicks off on Friday morning at 10 a.m. with a rider clinic that will be put on by some of the top-ranked professional riders in the world. Friday will also be the set up day for the weekend. There will be no competitions on Friday but anyone is welcome to watch the clinic and see how these tricks are performed.
Starting at 10 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, competitions between the 40 expected riders start. Saturday will be the Surf and Big Air (Free-ride) competition. This will consist of surf slashing, wave riding, re-entries, nose stabs, barrel rolls, back flips and more. Many of these tricks will be performed 20 plus feet in the air. Sunday will consist of moto-surf racing. There will be both sit down and stand up jet skis racing around buoys in the pounding surf with the awards to be given for all competitions afterwards on the beach at the main booth area. In total there will be around $5,000 in trophies and prizes.
The public is invited to bring a chair and a camera to enjoy this free family friendly event on the beach. Please respect the beach and do not park in the marked off sections. Barb’s BBQ will be on site all weekend serving barbecue sandwiches and more. There will be music playing, raffles throughout the day and event t-shirts and hoodies will be available at the main booth.
