ABERDEEN — With offices tucked in the industrial area of Aberdeen, Horns & Hooks magazine promotes western U.S. outdoor adventure.
Now into its fourth issue from its January-February 2012 initial offering, Horns & Hooks is starting to hit the newsstands at places like Dennis Co.
“Most hunting and fishing magazines tell you where to or how to,” said publisher Rex Peterson. “Horns & Hooks tells the story of the adventure.”
A managing partnership with fellow business partner Jesse Kollman, Horns & Hooks brings the readers perspective of hunting and fishing adventures.
Articles are first-hand accounts of reader submitted stories capturing the thrill of the hunt or the cast of a line. The magazine also promotes youth involvement with stories about their first big fish or tracking and bagging a buck mule deer.
“I have always been consumed with hunting and fishing since I was a kid out with my grandparents,” said Peterson.
The magazine also provides technology tips, recipes and reader trophy photos.
“We are looking to expand, and are not limited to just hunting and fishing,” Peterson said.
There have been articles on crabbing and soon to be a specific look at outdoor adventures.
“There are a few different sections, with the main focus on the stories,” said Peterson.
Currently about 90 percent of Horns & Hooks is hunting and fishing, and the majority of the stories are coming from the Grays Harbor area. But the future of the magazine looks to promote all of the western states in any type of outdoor adventure.
“We have added a piece from Amy Spooner giving the woman’s perspective,” Peterson said. “From what I have heard so far about the magazine, once people read it they like it.”
Horns and Hooks are also sponsoring its first annual fishing derby. The event will be held in Grays Harbor, Sept. 15-23. Check out the website at www.hornsandhooks.com for more information and to subscribe or submit stories.
