ABERDEEN — Grays Harbor Bowmen held its Hunters’ Dreams M3 shooting event on Aug. 3-4 at Grays Harbor Bowmen range near Aberdeen. Forty competitors shot both days and were eligible for the deer-topped trophies, while 15 other shooters participated on Saturday or Sunday only.

The marked-distance 3D format is popular with the younger set and had a good number of families shooting together. The full age spectrum was represented, with four in the PeeWee (under age 8) category and one Master Senior (age 70-plus). Several first-time visitors to the club enjoyed the event, with archers coming from as far as Spokane and Tillamook, Ore.

For this event, 42 animal targets with foam dots at marked distances were set out for hunters. Two arrows per target scoring 11 points for the spot, 10 for the kill and 8 for any part of the animal. Possible points were 924 each day, 1,848 total. High score was achieved by Justin Hill in the Adult Male Bowhunter Freestyle group with 901 Saturday and 893 Sunday for a total of 1,794. Bill Barnhart, shooting in the Senior Male Freestyle division, scored 1,776, and Dan Peterson, Senior Male Bowhunter Freestyle, was third highest at 1,773. Among the ladies, top score was Tammy Melton, Adult Female Freestyle, tagging 1,749 points. Outstanding junior was Emily Oaks in Youth Female Bowhunter Freestyle, scoring 1,432.

The Hunters’ Dream was the final event of the 2013 calendar. Club members have also concluded the Safari

league for the year. The Bowmen plan four events in 2014, starting with the Bucks and Bulls 3D in February, the Clam Shoot and Zombie Shoot safaris in the spring and concluding with another marked 3D in late summer.
