MONTESANO – With a cheering crowd in the new stands, the boys varsity team fought a tough match with a Tenino team to convincingly win their first match of the season.

This was the first game played in front of the newly rebuilt Montesano High School Bleachers.

David Sawyer led the way in the boys varsity game with two goals while Brandon Lovell added another with the final score being 3-1 against Tenino.

There were three penalty kicks in the varsity match, with two for the Bulldogs and one for Tenino, and the Dogs scored their final goal on a penalty kick that slammed into the left corner of the net. Shots on goal and shots off were close: 7 on goal, 6 off goal.

The game featured a lot of tackles and a few injuries, including a Tenino player who had to be carried off by a teammate near the end of the game. There was one yellow card for Tenino and none for Montesano.

Next up for the Bulldogs are a March 20 game against King’s Way Christian in Montesano and a March 22 road trip to Stewart Field to face Aberdeen.
