MONTESANO — For the Lady Bulldog tennis team, they continue to improve their season just before District play on May 17.
For the Bulldogs, two wins on the road over Stevenson (5-0), May 8, and Kings Way (4-1) May 6, brings their season to 8-4 with a final regular season home match against White Salmon. Still undefeated this season the No. one doubles team of
Johanna Brulotte and April Easter found that they might have stiffer competition moving forward as they finally dropped a set to the Kings Way team of Erin Sprowls and Jasmine Nesbitt. The Lady Bulldogs took the first set 6-4, dropped the second 4-6, but came back and went into a tie breaker session. The game ended 7-6 in favor of Brulotte and Easter taking the tie break at 7-5.
“The games against Kings Way were alot closer than the score shows,” said Montesano coach Theresa Helland.
For Montesano, all but one match went into tie break vollies. Number two singles, Bailey Malizia was the only Bulldog to win in straight sets winning over Kaylin Gribi 6-4, 6-2. And for the number one singles, Lingxing Zhang, she fell to Kings Way’s McKenzie Davis 7-6 (tie break 7-4), and 6-3.
Single player Katie Ayers redeemed the Bulldog tally with a tie-break win over Jessica Krippner winning her two sets 6-3, 7-6 (7-3). The Bulldog team of Elizabeth Taborski and Ally McHatton had a first set tie break victory 7-6 (7-3), fell in teh second set 4-6, but picked up their game and came back to win 6-3 in the final set to win their rmatch over Emily Goodson and Megan Landstrom.
Tennis moving on for the Bulldogs, they will travel to Vancouver for district play and state will be in Yakima starting on May 24 for two days.

The match against White Salmon was a victory for the Montesano team taking the match 3-2. They finish their regular season third in the league with a record of 9-5. For the doubles teams of Johanna Brulotte and April Easter, their win over White Salmon doubles team of Naomi Castro and Hanna Sawyer, 6-2, 6-1, brings their undefeated season to 14-0.
For the final home match against White Salmon, the team made a second doubles team out of singles players Lingxing Zhang and Bailey Malizia who rallied to defeat Viri Cortez and Alianna Milotta 6-1, 6-1.
“I was hoping to get another doubles team into district and possibly further. So I put Lingxing and Bailey together and they did really well,” said coach Helland.
The team is now ready to take on the challange of district play scheduled at the Vancouver Tennis and Raquet Club on May 17. Out of district play the top two singles and doubles will advance to the state tournament in Yakima.
“I was really suprised with our results this year. The team worked real hard to get where they are. ” said Helland.
