Monte soccer beats King’s, 3-1

MONTESANO — The first day of spring saw a beautiful clear evening filled with sunshine and the last bites of winter and the Montesano Bulldogs Boys Soccer Varsity second victory of the season. Montesano beat King’s on a score 3 to 1.

It was scoreless until the last 12 minutes of the second half. The Bulldogs then scored the three goals in 6 minutes which would win them the game.

Brandon Lovell’s first goal was kicked off the corner at an angle which tipped off the goalie’s fingers and held a breathless miniscule of time in the air until its trajectory was completed into the net. His second goal was 2 minutes later, so fast the crowd had barely recovered from its excitement. Less than 2 minutes after the second goal, Lovell aimed a stunning header into the net for his third of the game.

The defense played hard and right defender Nick Prosch earned the game ball for Montesano. A hard kick to goal was stopped by goalie Jeff Varness at the start in the first 10 minutes of the second half and the only goal for the Kings occurred in the last 10 minutes by King’s #10, Conner Gilroy, with a soaring boot.

Shots on target: 9. Shots off target: 5.
