Monte drops softball non-league tune-up

On Senior Day, Montesano learned a lesson that it’ll have to learn again before next week’s district tournament during this non-league regular-season finalè against Toutle Lake on Friday.

The Ducks (19-1), the Central 2B League champions, scored three runs off Bulldogs starter Staci Schneider to earn a 4-1 victory. Toutle Lake starter Rae Curry scattered eight hits and helped Montesano strand runners in scoring position in the first five innings of the game.

“The one thing we need to take from this game, with runners in scoring position, we need to step up and get the big hit,” Montesano head coach Pat Pace said. “In five innings, we had runners in scoring position who failed to score. It gives us something to focus on and learn from.”

Madi Studer knocked home Montesano’s lone run in the second inning. Studer, Schneider, Rayna Ashlock, Pua Cavanah, Lindsy Quinn, Ashley Walters and Paulina Wendlandt were honored prior to the game during Senior Day festivities.

Montesano (15-5, 12-0) finished its league schedule an undefeated 12-0 with wins over Rochester 6-1 and 18-8.

The Bulldogs will begin District IV 1A softball tournament play at Borst Park in Centralia on Wednesday.
