The Montesano School District is slowly — but surely — moving toward its goal of installing artificial turf at Rottle Field in the not-to-distant future.
The Montesano School Board accepted a $25,000 donation toward the project from the Grays Harbor Community Foundation at its meeting last Thursday.
According to district Superintendent Dan Winter, that means the turf field fund has now accrued $73,609 toward its goal of $100,000. Once it reaches that goal, that sum will be matched by both the Kelsey Foundation and local business Willis Enterprises for a grand total of $300,000. Add that to the just more than $200,000 the district had already gathered and there will be a little more than $500,000 in the fund.
Winter said the district has brought in three different companies to study the site and submit bids on the project. He has yet to see any estimates yet, but expect to see some soon.
“I’m expecting a couple of them any day now,” said Winter.
In a letter to the school district from Jim Daly, executive director of the Grays Harbor Community Foundation, he said the foundation board “felt that this project was a great match to the priority “Health &Wellness” in the foundation board guiding document.”
“The Community Foundation believes that Montesano School District is an unduplicated, valuable resource to our community. The grant will be made from The Fund for Grays Harbor, our unrestricted fund for discretionary grant-making in Grays Harbor County,” the July 14 letter stated.
