COSMOPOLIS — Taking another whack at the previously scheduled golf match, Hoquiam invited Montesano out for a round at Highland Golf Course on Monday. The match was postponed due to thunder and lighting, but the the rescheduled contest was a picture-perfect day out on the course, despite some light wind.
“No thunder, no lighting and no rain. It was s a great day for golf, ” said Montesaon golf coach Lloyd Aldrich.
Grizzly John Sand came in at 37 to nab medalist honors and lead Hoquiam to a 184-208 victory over the Bulldogs.
Shooting at the No.1 spot for Montesano, Nolan Walker carded a 52. Monte No. 2 Kyler Landry shot a 53, while his Grizzly counterpart, Josh Bishop, carded a 43.
“Overall, not bad scores for us. But when their No. 1 player goes out and shoots a score like that, we are going to have trouble competing,” said Alrich.
As Aldrich was tracking the varsity team (0-3) on the front nine, new Montesano head basketball coach and assistant golf coach Doug Galloway took the team of junior varsity golfers through the back nine.
The Bulldog JV team beat their counterparts, 209-218. The Bulldogs next face Woodland at home on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
