The Montesano Chamber of Commerce board has decided to donate $10,000 toward the effort to install artificial turf at Rottle Field.
Chamber president Dennis Brumbaugh said the board pledged the funds at its meeting on July 29, but that they will only agree to give the money if the field is used for various teams and helps to expand the current uses of the field.
“We need to see that it ends up being for the whole community and not just the football team,” Brumbaugh said.
Brumbaugh said the board decided unanimously to donate the funds. Local business Willis Enterprises and the Montesano-based Kelsey Foundation have each agreed to match $100,000 in donated funds so the $10,000 donation by the chamber will be turned into $30,000.
“These are dollars that we were going to invest and we couldn’t think of a better investment than Montesano schools,” Brumbaugh said.
Individuals interested in making tax-deductible donations to the turf fund may mail donations to: Montesano School District, 302 N. Church St., Montesano, 98563.
