Monte girls lift way to title

Montesano’s girls took team honors in the Shelton Invitational, the final pre-state test, on Saturday.

With four champions, the Bulldogs totaled 58 points. North Beach, with two female winners, placed second with 37.

Host Shelton ran away with the boys team title, scoring 60 points. Montesano finished a distant second with 29.

Montesano’s Noah Ewing and Rayna Ashlock received the Outstanding Lifter Awards. Ewing won the boys 198-pound championship with a 1,425 total. Ashlock took the girls 114-pound crown with a 665 lift total.

Ashley Laney, in the 105-pound division (with a 570 lift total), Corrie Stewart at 165 (855) and Charley Schimelpfenig at 181 pounds (635) were Montesano’s other female champions.

Elma’s Wesley Allen at 123 pounds (765) and Montesano’s Evan Bialkowsky at 242 pounds (1,185) were among the boys champions.

The state championship meet is scheduled for May 3 at White Salmon.
