MONTESANO — The Montesano Bulldogs are on a hot streak as they took two games from Rochester on April 3. Beating the forecast of torrential rain, the baseball schedule was advanced one day to fit in a doubleheader at Montesano against the Rochester Warriors.
Bringing their season to a 9-0 overall standing, the Bulldogs defeated the Warriors 6-2 and 11-1. In the first game it looked like the visiting Warriors might notch a win holding a 2-0 lead through six innings. The Bulldogs were able to tie the game by the bottom of the seventh and hold Rochester at the top of the eighth 2-2. After a leadoff single by Bulldog Richard Smith, the Warriors made a pitching change and allowed two additional runners aboard via walks. With two outs and bases loaded, Layne Bruner stepped to the plate and was able to drive a shot over the fence for a grand slam home run and the first win for the Bulldogs of the day.
The hits just kept on coming for Montesano through the second game. Able to put at least one run on the scoreboard in every inning, the Warriors were able to only scratch the surface with a single score in the fourth. By the time the fifth inning started the Montesano tally was already 9-1. A two run homer by Evan Bialkowsky gave the Bulldogs enough of a lead to invoke the 10-run mercy rule and another win to Montesano.
